
Russell trained in Theatre Studies at Trent Park and the Rose Bruford College, holds the London University Diploma in Dramatic Art. He is an Associate of the Drama Board and of the London College of Music.
As Principal Moderator in Drama and Theatre Arts for the Assessment and Qualifications Alliance he gets into schools and colleges all over the British Isles to see some of the exciting work which is taking place.
Since taking early retirement from a senior teaching post at a large Comprehensive School in Yorkshire, he has been very much in demand.
Over the last twelve years he has examined and adjudicated in Europe, the Far East, Northern and Southern Ireland, the Channel Islands and at a large number of prestigious Festivals in England and Wales. In 2002 he adjudicated the Welsh One Act Finals and in 2003 the AEFT British Finals on the Isle of Man.
As a member of the OFSTED Inpectorate of Schools he specialises in Art Education and finds this particular string to his bow both challenging and stimulating.
When time permits, he directs professionally and enjoys running courses for Amateur Actors.
He is the Information Officer for the Guild of Drama Adjudicators and is active, on its behalf, in promoting the Guild and its objectives.
His Northern down to earth common sense and obvious expertise has made him popular with many Festivals who are always more than happy to welcome him back.
